Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
I have a chiller that I think I am going to sell. Might be too small for your tank although it brings my tank temps down in a hurry but it is only a 34 gal tank. I will look at the chiller soon (out in the shed) and see what size it is and let you know if you are interested. Are you having temp problems now? If you are and even if it is a little small you could borrow it and use it untill you find a bigger one for the long term.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
Rob,
I think that whatever you have would actually be more than enough. Just the case fans on my tank made a 7 degree difference(one time they didn't go on, I had forgot to plug them in during a water change)
I think i really just need a bump to help it out, and even a 1/15 would give me that.

You are slowly adding dry rock to your system? Did you get a chiller?

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
I am adding it slowly, and I checked last night 0 ammonia /phosphates in the bucket with rock. Also I watched it go through its cycle.
As for the chiller, I was supposed to pick it up yesterday, but he had something come up. I think I will be picking it up in a week or two. I have been working on programming my apex for the chiller. I am going to put the actinics back on a regular kitchen timer, and use that outlet for the chiller.

You are moving quickly, just last month you had pretty much nothing and now getting a chiller, and only have 4 outlets for your controller. get another 8 outlet. slow it down bud.
oh and can I have some of that money youre throwing around?

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
Had to upgrade the skimmer, because my old one just wasn't performing. Bought the apex because I wasn't going to be in town, and if the heater got stuck on I would be sol. The chiller is because I am having a swing already and its still winter. Summer is going to be worse. You can think I have spare cash just flowing out of my pockets, but I have just been selling things that are just taking up space and people have given me good deals. So you can say that I have been blessed with good friends.

Id wait on the LEDs. I dont think that they are as great as everyone says. At least from what I have seen thus far...

Paul, I tend to agree with you, but how long should we wait? is there a concern of color shift or par degradation?

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
well I'm not planning on switching over anytime soon, but when I do,I will be looking into that. I like t5's an all, but I really see no benefit to switching when I already have everything set up now. Especially when I get my chiller.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
I think I am going to run LED with t5's on the new tank. As a matter of fact I am going to get One LED module for my small tank soon and see how I like it before the large investment for the bigger tank.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
thats a good idea cruzer. I had thought, though more of just an idea, but to make my refugium have a frag rack, put an LED over it and see how it does compared to the rest of the tank(with MH).

you should use that skimmer on your school tank. It would help out immensely!

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
from what I have read and people I have spoke with, the biggest issue isnt with the color of the lights or shifting or par, its with how the corals look under them and how they look under other lighting. I have heard from several farmers that corals grown under LEDs do not look the same under T5s or MH and that they tend to have significant problems adapting from one source to another and back.
I have read a few articles that believe that the lack of UV radiation in LEDs has something to do with this. I would tend to agree.
Hence i say to hold back because I do not think the technology is fully "there" yet.
I am running a nano sol from AI on my Solana, and while I like it and the colors it produces, I do not know if SPS would do well under it.
Anyways, just my 2 cents. I have a friend that is doing a full blown sps reef under LEDs so we will see how that turns out.

I have 3 Current USA moon lights that I will sell you for $20 o.b.o. I paid 30 for them and used them only for about 10minutes. They work great, but I dont have room for them in my hood with my lights.

I guess my clowns got sick of sharing the torch coral. Here you can see one in the torch and the other in the frog spawn!

nope, its just right. the pictures really don't show how much rock is in here. I still have 2 more rocks left, and I am just going to break them up and put them in the fuge. I don't want any more in the display.

Looks good man! Clown fish are weird; it seems the longer you have a tank, the more personality it shows. Keep the pics comin.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
made a manifold to run my reactor and chiller. Also, added a spot so I can pump water out for water changes(center one)
If I ever get another single brs reactor, I will split the far right one between the 2, and have that one valve run both reactors. I have bene thinking of adding another single reactor so I can control gfo and carbon separate.

I like it! Having the ability to pump our water for water changes is a great idea. I am going to plumb my new tank with this type of capabilities in mind.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
I put a true union on it so I could just screw on the fitting and go. After thinking about it more, it would have been a little bit easier to put true unions on all of them. Oh and Do it best has the sched 80 ones for like 4$. Everything there cost me 30 ish dollars minus the pump.

I plumbed a section on my return for waterchanges but I would only be able to pump the volume of my sump so I ended up not using it.

I have enough in my sump for water changes (10%) I have pulled out of the sump before. But Sandman, make sure you have enough water in your sump when you build it.

Re: Dwolson's 75Gal tank
I think I had taken about 15-17 pictures of just this one coral, but not all of them were straight enough to use. I ended up with 12(over an 8 month window) that I could use for the motion GIF.
