Isn't that what you were looking for in terms of price? I bet you could get him to drop a bit on the price. That would make for a killer tank though!

You should go check it out and see how much they are willing to drop the price, you would have one of the biggest reef tanks around for sure! just imagine how long it would take to fill that bad boy up with RODI water!

I wonder what size it is. Looks to be at least 8 feet tall.

Yea, it would work as a FOWLR but too deep for a reef. And you have to go diving to clean it.

Re: 4,300 gallon tank for crusty
I know I have found all sorts of sweet huge tanks for him and he just keeps shooting them down! This is seriously a sweet tank. I am sure you can get him down pretty good on the tank they need to sell it. I would go in with like $2000 and I am sure they would.

Re: 4,300 gallon tank for crusty
My biggest issue is size. I need to be able to put it in where the current one is. I also want to be able to clean it and grow corals.

I think you could still have a coral reef. It would just take a long time before it was covered in corals.
You would also have a more dramatic change in light with depth. So you could put SPS towards the top, zoas on the bottom.
Also, your water keeps up ALK(if you go back to the other filter), so all you would need to dose is Calcium.
You probably wouldn't want to make your own RODI and new salt water, since it would cost an arm and a leg, but there are local companies that can deliver NSW that you could set the tank up with.
I think it could be plausible, and once you got the levels where they need to be, becuase of the water volume being so large, there would be very little swings, so I would wager that stuff would grow quickly. Could you also add another sun tube?

Sun tubes are not a problem.
NSW would have to be reopend at UCSB.
Space and cleaning is the issue. That tank is probably higer than my curent celing.

Re: 4,300 gallon tank for crusty
There is Catalina water co. that sells NSW they pump from Long Beach harbor and filter it. Years ago it came from catalina Island, but it's easier and cheapier to just pump it from Long Beach.
There have been companies in the past that filled up with free UCSB water and then would go sell it. That's why the big line got shut down and they went to a small garden hose.
Either way, it's not that cheap to but it from these companies. I can make ASW cheapier than buying it from them, even in big quanities. I can get NSW for even less once UCSB is back open.
They charge you like 1.50 to 2 a gallon for NSW that they get for free.

You have to factor in how much you spend in gas per how many gallons you are able to bring home.

Plus we can loan you our 55 gal drums so you will have even more. Could you hook up a mag pump to the garden hose to pull the water from the source so it will move the water faster?

That's a whole lot better than $4300 at a buck a gallon. It's exactly 50 miles each way from my house to the spigot at UCSB.
Derrick, no need. I've got a 275G conatiner and a bunch of 50g trash cans I use. Just I don't think the truck can handle much more than 300 G in the bed. But if I was to get a trailer?
A for a pump, you may get a little moer but your restrictited by the size of the hose. A round trip, including filling up 250G in containers and sealing them off would take me about 2 hours total. I would go early on Sunday morning when everyone else was still asleep.

Re: 4,300 gallon tank for crusty
If you guys are going to find me a tank, let's look for something I want.
8 - 10 foot long. 4 foot wide and around 30" tall. Starfire glass at least on the front.

Ray, I have a two axle 16' trailer rated for 7000lb you can use. My neighbor has taken it to 7000lbs with an f150, but I personally wouldn't go over 5000 with it.
