    Water Changes... Empty Water Changes...

So many of us do water changes and some do not. Im one of those who does very few water changes since I started Vodka dosing, I guess my question is, how much does water changes really help? How much good stuff does it pull out? I know water changes are to pull out left over "crap" in the tank and detritus, but what about pulling out beneficial bacteria or pods also. Does the positive out weigh the negative or does it just depend on your tank "personality?"

I tried to do water changes every 2 weeks but sometimes I would do it every week. But with my Nano at work, I do it more often because I don't have a protein skimmer to remove all the waste.

I do 1 95% water change a year and that is just to put the ions back in proper balance. My system/filtration handles the 'crap'. I wouldn't recommend my method for a beginner or a new tank though.

I change about 50% of mine every few weeks. But that's 200G of water. Shocked

The water change is more to replenish teh trace elements that are removed by fish and corals. Most of the main stuff we dose. Also a water change is to help get rid of excess nutrients in teh water that we don't want.

As the saying goes, "the best solution to polution is dilution."
