I started my 135g tank with this water but it needs to be buffered because of the low calcium and Alk. The water works great for most people here.

The only 2 problems I was seeing is that they use only a sand filter so any polutants from boats , oil spill ect. cant be filtered out . According to the guild there, the water is only pumped in from like .5 miles out. Also micro org that are used to cold water might die when you heat up the water to 78 causing other problems.

I ran their water for years up until they shut down the hose to rebuild the building. No issues at all. Remember that they use this water for all of their experiments. Wink

Here's a pic of my old 72G that was run strictly on UCSB water and seachem alk and calc addatives, nothing else. My green Monti Cap grew like a weed and had to be trimed regularly.

So. Can you just start using it instead of buying or mixing your own or would it be better to start up a new tank with it?

here is a thread where people have reviews on the water.

    http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541355

The UCSB NSW is fine but most people say its difficult to keep SPS with this water.

Shrum, I've done it both ways with no issues. As for SPS, I've never really kept any of the hard to keep SPS.

Cool, I am in SB all the time. I might have to try the water. Just was a little hesitant.
