So what are you going to use for a finish? Spray or brush?

I can't beleive you don't hook up the exhaust to at least a shop vac to catch everything? That's how I run mine. Wink

The finish is going to be brushed on, and I have an entire vacuum system for all my tools but it's on my trailer that is parked in mugu...So because I'm so lazy, instead I put up with sawdust everywhere.

That's fine as long as he chooses something other than bamboo...

I work with bamboo at my cab shop and I gotta say I've never seen that grain of bamboo. Also be careful with using melamine for interior guts , it will eventually swell. I gotta say good work., my stand is also bamboo vertical grain.

Thanks Saybng. Yeah, I wish that they would put melamine on a different substrate, something other than mdf. All the corners edges where the melamine come together will be siliconed to prevent water/moisture from getting to the mdf.

Do you have a picture of your stand?

I got 3 coats of finish on the sides/front and 6 coats on the top piece. it's almost there. I think that another 3 coats all the way around will be perfect.

I taped the inside off so that I can caulk it. once that's all done then I can paint all the bare wood.

I'm back home now, but only for a few days. But it sounds like you don't need my spray rigs. Unless you want to do the final coats with it? I told you, if you need something, just give me a ring. I've pretty much got a full blown wood shop in the garage, just the tools are put away so you don't see them all.

Maybe you need to bring some corals over one weekend, sit around and have a few brews, and we can look around the shop. Wink

I'm gonna have to take you up on that offer one day. I got the final coats on the stand and turned my attention to the fans.

Bogdon and Crystal wanted 2 fans in the main section, one blowing in and the other blowing out (for good cross flow) and one in the side compartment blowing out.

I painted and cut the holes for them:

    Bogdon's custom bamboo stand - Page 2 Photobucket-49597-1353381667477

Here they are attached and temporarily wire up, I made it easy to flip the fans around in case they change their minds about which direction the want them to flow as well as for replacement:

    From the inside:

Now I have to finish painting and get the final coat on the doors and aside from drilling the holes for the plumping... I'll be done.

Wow I can see how much detail you put into the build! Have you counted the number of hours you spent on this project?

Project looks great. I know how much work it takes to do one of these. I hope your being kindly compensated for it. Wink

We'll have to figure out or schedules and find a good Saturday or Sunday to hook up. Got several new brews about ready to try. Wink And I've got a few goodies in the garage you haven't seen yet. Plus I just redid my table saw/
router/incra fence set up so it may need to be tested. Wink

Oh and I've got a pretty good library of wood working books as well. Wink

Sounds good, I always enjoy reading through those types of books to pick up different ways to accomplish certain tasks.

2 more hours logged last night, I put the final coat of finish on the doors, and painted the frames for the fans. I have to cut holes for the plumbing and paint the bottom... then it'll be done!!!

Today at lunch I flipped the stand upside down and painted the bottom as well as the fan holders.:

And when I got home I put everything together:
