LF input on a return pump. Empty LF input on a return pump.

OK, as the title says, I'm looking for input for a new return pump. Here's my requirments.

    1. Econimical. Both cost and power usage.
    2. Must flow 1000 GPH at 10 feet of head.
    3. MUST BR QUIET.
    4. can be internal or external. I prefer external as I'm already set up for it.

So any ideas of a good pump that will meet these requirments? Thanks.

I have neard nothing but good things about the Laguna pumps. At your specs, a Laguna Maxflow 2400 would be 924 gph @ 10' and a 2900 would be 1744GPH 2 10'. You can get the 2900 for about 170 on ebay. energy is 65W to 130W.

When I was lurking the big tank RC threads I heard a lot about the Mag, Iwaki (however you spell it), and laguna pumps

I've run a big MAG pump before and it was noisie. I had a Iwakia and it is dead silent, but not enough flow.

I looked at the Laguna last night and it seems like a 2400 will do the job. It flows about 1400 GPH at 6' of head and 100W so it should be about right. Just wondering about the noise.

Mags create so much heat...not worth it. You can get Iwaki and their knock off Pan world with a lot of push to them. But the drawback is that they are power hogs. I run a panworld 50pxx and it draws like 100w at 1100 gph. It definitely pushes a ton of water though. I know they make iwaki/PW that are rated to around 2000gph.

I am running a Reef Octopus Water Blaster HY-10,000 rated at 2,600 GPH. It is very quiet, and only draws 130 watts I believe, might be less. It can be run internal/external and I believe is a great choice. They have a safety shut off in case tge pump runs dry that will save the pump.

Paul I looked at the PW 50 PXX. While it does flow 1100 GPH, that is at 0 head. At 10 ft of head, it only flows 240 GPH. That's the only problem I've found with Iwakia/panworld, they can't handle much head pressure. But I'll keep looking.

OK I found the water blaster. 1054 GPH @ 10' of head and 130W. Not too bad and will fit the bill.

They used to make high pressure pumps (panworld/iwaki) but it looks like they do not anymore. Oh well. The reef octopus pump sounds pretty nice.

I did find a few high flow/pressure pumps from them but they pull like 300+ watts. Rolling Eyes
