Today I had to ride my bicycle from port hueneme naval base all the way to thousand oaks to meet my wife up there to pick up our car at the Lexus dealer.
I tried to find someone to take me up there but it was so last minute that no one was willing to accommodate my request so I jokingly told my wife that I'd ride my bicycle down there and she took it as a solid plan. I hen decided it would probably be a great challenge to ride up potrero road, a decision i'd later regret...
So after work I pointed my bike in that direction, everything was going good for the first 13 miles, the wind was at my back, I was cruising at 22+ miles an hour. It only took me about 30 minutes to go roughly 13 miles but then I started up the hill and at some points I slowed down to as little as 5 mph, my legs had nothing left to propel me forward. The last 3 miles or so took me almost 45 minutes to climb that hill.
The final distance was 16.79 miles. And I know I'm going to be feeling it for the next couple days.
However, I have to admit... once I reached the top it was a great feeling of accomplishmentand once the road changed to Lynn it was all downhill from there and I was doing almost 40 mph, now that was awesome it made it all worth it... I have a feeling that in a couple days when the soreness sets in, I won't see it that way.
