Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
Hey guys so ive been working on a big setup for a while and its slowley starting to come together. My plan is to have the tank (48 x 20 x 20) about 90 gallons in my room and plumb it out into the grage. this will allow me to have all my equipment out there and not have to worry about space! I have a 80 gallon sump which i am putting on its own circut breaker with gfci circuts. i also have switches built in so i can controll each outlet without having to unplug them when i need to turn it off. i am going to run a G2 skimmer and a reflo hybrid snapper/dart return pump. my dad decided that since i have the sump and everything he would set up a small tank in the kitchen and plumb it into my sump. so he bought an ADA starphire 23 gallon tank. right now i am working on building my stand. I am going to hopefully pick up the metal this week so i can get the tank inside. i am going all LEDs over the tank which will be controlled by the apex both will be ordered after i have the stand done. Im sure i could sit here and type for hours about it but pics are better and i am working on thoes. i just figured i would give a quick overview of my plans. Now Back to work!!!

Nope. I have been researching leds for the same price as the t5s and then i get all the cool functions, less heat, and cheaper in the long run.

dfladermaus wrote:from what I have read and people I have spoke with, the biggest issue isnt with the color of the lights or shifting or par, its with how the corals look under them and how they look under other lighting. I have heard from several farmers that corals grown under LEDs do not look the same under T5s or MH and that they tend to have significant problems adapting from one source to another and back.
I have read a few articles that believe that the lack of UV radiation in LEDs has something to do with this. I would tend to agree.
Hence i say to hold back because I do not think the technology is fully "there" yet.
I am running a nano sol from AI on my Solana, and while I like it and the colors it produces, I do not know if SPS would do well under it.
Anyways, just my 2 cents. I have a friend that is doing a full blown sps reef under LEDs so we will see how that turns out.

How are you plumbing you tank in your room to the reeflo? Are you going through the wall?

structural considerations
Place your tank as close to the outside wall as possible if youy are on a raised foundation
and not a slab, That is a lot of weight on the joists and could cause your floor to sag or fail.

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
So ive been thinking about the idea of running one of thoes attic fan things that you see on peoples roofs (the round ball looking things) as a fan for my canopy. Since my tank is right next to my wall i could run it into the wall and up through the roof. That way i will have absolutly no noise from fans in my room at all. Actually now that im thinking about it the inly noise that will be in my room will be the overflow!

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
What fans are you referring to? I can't envision what you are planning. If you are talking about those fans that spin from wind. Wouldn't that make it difficult to get into your tank?

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
There is 3 blue to every normal white. Which is a 15k color temp. Then when the high noons turn on it will drop to like a 10k look but thats ok because im never home at the time thoes will be on and that way my corals get some nice growth as well

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
What's this? Three months of talking and all we get is one pic of a tank sitting on it's end?
I didn't know they made UV LED's. You saw my light setup and how I took care of the UV problem.
So is the dart going to be the return pump? If so, what are you using the other two pumps for that you got from me?
I think you should go bigger on the tank though, but that just me.

No the dart isint working so well. I will most likely us the hammerhead to run the teturn for now. The baracuda is just a backup in case we have way to much flow

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
It's coming along! I have a few questions:
1.Did you weld that yourself?
2.How heavy is the stand?
3.What did you make the Canopy out of?

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
Yes i built the whole thing. And yes its very heavy but it still weighs less than the tank. And the canopy is made out of smaller tubbing its 1 inch instead of 1 1/2 which means the walls for the tubing are 1/16 instead of 1/8 so its alot lighter.

Are you going to grind down the welds on the front of the stand? or did you account for that bead when you cover it?

Running flex hose would be MUCH easier through floors than rigid.

Re: Clownfish14's 90 gallon of sexyness
Yes running hard pvc would have sucked. This sucked too but was much easier than ridged. The basement is only 3 feet tall so i have to army crawl around the foundation. On another note i plumbed my dads tank today which was even worse lol. I had to climb through holes that i could easily get stuck in it all went good though im thinking about drilling and painting the tanks tommrow.
