Green Hair algae? Empty Green Hair algae?

    Post by reefer87 Wed Jan 04, 2012 2:21 am

Whats a good invert or small fish to help control green hair algae? The reaseon I say small is because this will be for my 14 gallon tank. I have been doing regular water changes to help eleminate the red slime but now it seems im getting more and more hair alge. Phosphates are below .006ppm.

I have been using Narite snails, they have been destroying my algae. They are available on the group buy as well.

What are your nitrates at? Ur phosphates seem to be good but bitrates could also be the cause of it

The problem is though snails just keep it under controll. U should try to find the source of it.

How did you get .006ppm for your phosphates? which test kit are you using?

I just guessed by matching color on the api test kit. The color was really close to the 0.0ppm but not exact.

Although new to the game, the research that I have done points towards lighting if the parameters are in line. I just recently had a hair algae growth that covered the majority of the back wall. I cut back on my lighting by 30 minutes, and am waiting to see if it makes a difference.
