New 120w LED
So on Monday I will be getting new Led lights in the mail Cant wait. I have been doing some research on acclimating them to all the corals. Just wondering what your guys input would be. They have a dimer switch. So what is the correct way to make sure my corals don't bleach out.

Re: New 120w LED
Hello! I am too in Simi Valley. Best way to do this is to probably run no more then 50% to start and increase weekly.

Re: New 120w LED
Cool I am on the west end as well! (First street and Fitzgerald) I would go like maybe 10% at most but thats just a guess I dont have experience doing this. I know a few people on here have so maybe they will put their input.

Re: New 120w LED
The best thing is to watch how your corals respond to the light, start out with 50% and try to ramp up between 5-10% a week until you get to where you want it to be. if the corals start to bleach then turn the lights down.

Do you have any pics of your tank? You should stop by sometime and check out my tank (I like to give tours).

Re: New 120w LED
I got two of the tao tronics led 120w with a dimmer. I did not have the money to spend 400$ a unit. I'm switching from 216w of t5 lighting. normally running 11 hours a day.

Re: New 120w LED
Just figured it would be better the long run and so i don't have to keep buying bulbs. although I was thinking maybe keeping one the units (108w) to change the color spectrum if I need to. IDK just a thought.
I got to come check out your setup soon.

Re: New 120w LED
Are they only blue and white? You may want to supplement with UV or check what spectrum they are and make sure to hit the 450nm(and 420nm if memory serves me correctly) spectrum. I would start at 40%, as LED's are more intense, then do 5% increase per week until you feel like its enough light(by watching the corals).

Re: New 120w LED
They are blue and white. One to one ratio. Royal blue 450nm and 12,000 - 14,000 k temp. Is that good enough?

Re: New 120w LED
You may want to look into 420nm 430 and 440nm chips. 450 is the big one, but you also want to hit lower than that if possible(see the kessil ocean bluehttp://www.kessil.com/products/a150_led_aquarium_light.php)
