    I found this video and wanted to share it. This is a refugium that is kept in darkness, and the amphipods are massive! notice the HUGE feather duster.

    Back when I was running a sump with bioballs, it was considered a benthic zone (in terms of light) and there were tons of amphipods, copepods, worms and mysis, they were all living in the confines of the balls.

    When I had my big skimmer running, it sat in a 30G sump in an enclosed box so it was mostly in the dark. When I would open it to clean out the skimmer, the sump was full of monster pods, even though there was nothing for them to "hide" in. The walls of the sump were covered with small featherdusters. I even had babby snails living inside of my skimmer.
