I had to shave off some of the plastic on the skimmer side on the side inner wall lip of the back chamber.
Simply drill a hole in the bottom of the collection cup, insert air fitting and I used some hard air line to flexi-air line.

how does it drain? does the cup have to fill up to the top of the clear tube before it drains out?

Yeah. Unfortunately the tube goes slightly up before it drops to the overflow cup. Bit that's to get to drain from the bottom of the cup and up slightly to go over the back of the tank. But it works!

that may be a better idea anyway just because the smell can be contained in the cup and once it reaches a certain level it drains out.

I thought you need to clean the neck of the collection cup so you don't get detritus build up.

yes, the inside of the skimmer cup needs to be cleaned on a regular basis.

I clean mine every day. Its easy enough to do and it really helps keep the tank clean
