    Don't laugh, LED Christmas lights? Empty Don't laugh, LED Christmas lights?

    Don't laugh yet please, but tell me what you think;

    Super bright led 4.8W sets 50pc dome style at Kmart.
    I made a 13.5" by 1.58" strip of old white plastic cutting board 0.22"
    Drilled 60 holes and made a redneck LED bar of blue lights.

    It makes my zooanthids POP. I have zoos acan Xenia chalice and blue cloves. So I was pondering using about 6 total strings 28.8W of mixed colors for a DIY lighting. These particular strings are very bright, like the don't look directly at it kind. The strip now is accenting the back of my 9 gallon nano. It has intense lighting in that specific area. If I mixed purple, white, blue and red into the mix...

    Will this even have a chance of doing anything? (Besides making an epic plastic shaving mess.)
    Filling the whole 16" by 14" surface area with super bright LED Christmas lights?
    If I built a black acrylic hood and put my PC flourescents back on it with the LEDs this would surely work, but is the idea just a pipe dream with only an absurd number of LED strings?
    Has this been done by some well intentioned reefer already?

    to determine the effectiveness of actually growing anything you would have to know the kelvin, light penetration factors, units of luminous intesity or candella, lux, work plane... many many things.

    Here is the real deal, If your lights are already growing the coral and you add the LED's, it can't hurt ANNNND it looks GREAT! so just lay back and enjoy!

    To grow with LED's you need high intesity closely clustered bulbs in large amounts.  It would take a lot of strings of christmas lights to do that. We're talking Christmas Vacation amounts of led christmas lights Smile
