    Hello Everybody,

My name is Rob and I kept saltwater fish a few years ago. Have three or four years of experience with fish but no corals. I had a 180 system back then and currently have a 34 gal Sonora cube that I picked up used a couple of weeks ago. It is all set up has stabilized pretty well from the move. All the critters are doing well. I am a retired Chief and am currently working on Point Mugu as a contractor. Read what I could find on the board, it looks like the club is fairly new or be rejuvinated.
Look forward to meeting and learning from you all.

Would be nice to go to a meeting, but I have classes Monday and Tuesday nights most of the time. Hope to meet up at some point though.

    Hey Brother Chief,
Welcome to the madness. Hopefully you can make it to a meeting sometime in the future. Keeping a reef is not that much harder than keeping a fish only. There's plenty of experience around here from the club members so don't worry, we're all here to help and learn, even us old guys learn a thing or two at times. Wink

I have dealt with corals some and have done a lot of reading. The corals that I have now are doing great but I have not been the caretaker for them long. Tank was established by the previouse owner. Right now I am battling some aptasia and getting stuff together for a quarantine tank for a couple of fish additions and incase problems arise.
Does the forum not have spell check lol? Can I post pictures straight to the board or do I need to host them someplace first?
Again thanks for the warm welcome, I am always going back and forth between the bases, maybe meeting up with others at lunch some time in the future could work.

I'm ovre at Hueneme as well working on the SDTS ship.

Apstia is always a problem. Best remedy I ever found to permantly get rid of them besides tearing the tank apart is a Copper banded Butterfly. But that might not work in your case because of the size of the tank. There are a bunch of home made recepies around that seem to work to some degree or another. Same can be said about the store bought ones as well. Good luck with the problem.

there is a shrimp that you can start with before, but people have a 50/50 success rate. Eitherway, its not bad to have an extra shrimp in your tank.

As for the spell check, if you use google chrome, there is a spell check in the web browser. so when I am at home, I don't mis spell as may things as I do at work.

Yeah I had some aiptasia and I hit with a double dose. I bought peppermint shrimp and aiptasia-x. Worked great for me. I have also heard if injecting lemon juice into the mouth.

I am using X-aptasia now and I have two pepermint shrimps in the tank. I hate aptasia, I almost did not by the tank because I saw a couple in it. Aptasia is one of the reasons I got out of the hobby before. Once you let them get a run on the tank it is a nightmare to get rid of them.

I have had a couple of projects on the SDTS. It is fun going over there, brings back memories from past ships that I have served on with the same basic layout. Great bunch of guys there also, has been nice working with them.
