    Wake Island Empty Wake Island

Post by Crusty Old Shellback Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:10 pm

Well I may have a chance to go and spend a few weeks on Wake Island for work. If you don't know where it is, it's half way between Hawaii and guam out in the Pacific. It has a huge lagoon and reef. About 12 miles of coast line in a V shape.

I've already asked about how long the flight is and can i go diving/snorking as well as coral collecting. We'll see what happens. It is a territory owned by the US and only has Military and civillian contractors on the island. No one lives there. So I'm not sure what the rules will be about collecting.

Anyone got any points of contact that may help in that reguard? Best way to bring a coral back with me?

Well it looks like I missed out. Now they say only one guy gets to go. Sad

But there may be other oppertunities in the future. I've also asked the guy to look into bringing me back some coral frags. Still doing some research on that end. Who knows, may still be a good thing. Wink

    MDA testing. Wink

Our White Sands detachment has a bunch of MDA work and not enough people, so we are helping them out. Looks like there willl be other oppertunities there as well as other places.

Plus you know they are coming to the ship right?

That's too bad you won't be going this time, but hopefully next time you will. That looks like an awesome place to visit.
