Yeah it's either the timer or the heater element. Leaning more toward the timer.

Wire/rope. You get that fresh ocean breeze Plus less to move in a few months.

Yeah I already got a clothes line. Just got it the other day. Just has to be sunny to dry your clothes.

Man, where were you a few months ago. Sold my wash and dry to a local store on the Blvd in Oxnard for $40.00. Wash had issues but dryer worked fine. Maybe check them out as they had some cheap prices. I don't remember the name but it's right on Oxnard Blvd just south of the old Pawn shop. Sign on the front says wash & dry buy/sell.
