Going to Compton to buy live rock tomorrow Empty Going to Compton to buy live rock tomorrow

    Post by Robinson44 Fri Aug 09, 2013 10:43 pm

So I'm setting up my old nanocube which I managed to find the leak and patch and at the same time a new LED nano cube I just got on sale. They are going on either side of the fire place. This was a less expensive option than the 60"X30"30" dream tank.

So I found this add on Craigslist for $1.75 / lb live rock and I thought I'd pick up a box for my 2 nano cubes. I don't know what the quality of this stuff really is, it's not airfreighted at that price, it will be by boat. I'm not sure if this is Walt Smith Rock but it sounds like it may be.

If anyone wants me to bring an extra box back for them and save a trip to Compton, speak up ASAP. I'm heading out there at 8am Saturday. I only ask because I've checked out the local stores and everything is cured but going for $8 to $12 per pound so this seems like a good deal.

I'm going on a roadtrip to Yellowstone and then Banf and will be gone for 2 weeks starting Sunday, so I'm excited to have all the curing done while I'm gone.

Nice! I myself am good on rock but I'm glad to see that your getting your tanks up and running. I cannot wait to see pictures of the setup

it is tempting to take you up on your offer but im planning on just starting my new build with dry rock. Also good to hear your getting your tank up be careful though going on vacation and leaving a tank by itself is risky lol something always ends up bad...

Going to Compton to buy live rock tomorrow Empty vacation feeding

Post by joflo Sat Aug 10, 2013 9:52 am

When I travel (quite frequently) I place (1) days food in a ziplock
and date it, and freeze it. I do this for each of the days I will be gone and
then I have my house sitter dump the frozen in my tanks
according to the date on the bag. This has worked out
very well, easing my mind while I am gone.

Thanks! Yea, not much to go wrong or kill yet, just 50lbs of sort of live rock. Tanks look good in the room, and we can watch both at the same time so I don't think either will get too neglected. I'll post pics wen I'm back.
